Did you know that the USDA puts out an official food plan with an average cost of food at home for a family of four? The official document states that the average Thrifty Plan food costs of a family of four with children under the age of five in August 2010 was $640.90. The liberal plan was $980.30. WOW! I don't spend even half of the thrifty plan and I feed a family of five. With smart shopping and some planning you can provide delicious meals at a fraction of the price.
